In case you were wondering…

The woman in the grocery store parking lot the other day, the one who accidentally hit her car’s panic button again while stuffing her keys into the front right pocket of her jeans? Yeah. That was me, moving through life with my usual grace, beauty and stealth.

This is one reason why you NEVER let little kids play with your car keys. At least you didn’t have to wrestle them away from sticky hands before stopping the noise (or stand there wondering who owned the car with the really loud alarm).

    ROFLMAO.

Like I haven’t done that. Many times. Sometimes, two or three times in a row.

I always hit my panic button. Stupid button.

    Haha! Nice :D

I did that accidentally from my bedroom one day and the alarm set off while the car was in the garage. I was cussing the stupid neighbor for 10 minutes before I figured out it was my car.

Shh! I’m sure no one noticed it was *you.* :)

The good thing about your kids doing it, Ilana, is that at least you have somebody to blame. Me? I was alone, so I had no one to blame it on.

Amy and Stacy, I’m glad to know that I’m not the only one.

    Robin, I love your icon!

So glad I’m not the only one. lol This must prove your’e a local lol

Too true, Alyson. Maybe I’d have more luck if I used the left? Must try that next…

LOL! I hadn’t even thought about that, Pam. So does it make me look like a local, or like a clueless tourist (as opposed to a level-headed tourist, which real does describe most of them)?

Suzanne, I guess so! Especially since I knew a lot of the people who were also in the parking lot and smiled or laughed when they saw me trying frantically to pull the keyring back out of my pocket so I could turn the alarm off.

Been there done that! It’s even more fun when you’re in a CHURCH parking lot. *G*

Snort. When I do things like this I often just walk away acting like I have nothing to do with the event. denial. It is a thing of beauty.

Oh, I *wondered* who said that, Kath! So it was you, huh?

Ooh, bookmom, I bet! I hope church wasn’t in service right then.

Eileen, I wish I had reacted with more aplomb right then. Unfortunately, I was running on adrenaline and embarrassment, which meant that I stopped dead in the middle of the aisle, then fumbled for my keys before stopping the alarm. I’m sure that my face probably told the story to anyone who hadn’t seen my fumbling!

Me, too, Virginia. I’ve never had a panic button before, though you’d think that after almost a year I’d be used to it, wouldn’t you?

  18. Tuesday, July 15, 2008 at 2:27 pm

Ha ha. Every now and then, it’s good to do something like this. Maybe you should have said to your onlookers, “This has been a test. If this had been a real emergency…”

Stealth is completely overrated. I like to move through life making as much noise as possible. :)

Following the rules of genetics it would seem that I might have the same panic problem on occasion. However, I’m proud to say that I’ve now gone a year with out such incident. How, you may ask? My new car has *gasp* manual locks. I love’em, and wouldn’t trade them for the world. Rest assured Sis, I previously shared the same level of stealthiness when I drove that little black speeding ticket on wheels.

LOL! I did it once when my car was in the driveway. The way our house is designed (and the volumn on the TV), I didn’t hear it!! A neighbor rang the bell to let me know, how embarrassing.

Katie, I bet! I’m not, though. You’d never have let me live it down! ;-)

Oh, Sandi, I wish I’d thought of doing something like that! Next time I must think faster instead of panicking and feeling stupid.

LOL, Leafprobably! That’s probably not a bad strategy.

Mike, you crack me up! And, yeah, I can see the benefit of manual locks — or at least not having to deal with a panic button.

SuRi, that’s hilarious! Well, maybe not to you or your neighbors, but I’m just glad to know I’m not alone.

I’ve done that with my toddler usually and I have a heck of a time shutting it off and running after her.. So usually it goes on for a while. :)

LOL… nice. Hey. would you rather have this kind of life, or be boring?

    Exactly.

I never hit the panic button. But, I open the trunk every time I try to lock or unlock the doors! I think my co-workers think that I’m OCD, checking the trunk before I leave the parking lot. The keyfob must be wired incorrectly; I suspect yours is too — nothing to do with that right pocket.

I hit the panic button when I LOVE MONEY comes on VH1. Because that means society’s collapse is imminent.

(Hey, are you going to nationals??? Come find me! We need to have lunch together again! I’ll get the giant salad this time.)

  28. Caryn said,

Ooh, Keri, that must be frustrating!

LOL, Muse! Yes, it was me. :-D

Excellent point, Kyle. Being boring is definitely overrated.

Cam, that would be a huge pain, too! And, yes, it’s definitely the keyfob’s fault, not yours (or mine). ;-)

LOL, Jess! And, yes, I’m off to Nationals next week. More info in your email…
